The large body of water pictured in this MODIS image from April 29, 2002, is Brazil's Sobradinho Reservoir, filled by the waters of the Sao Francisco River in northeast Brazil near the Atlantic Coast. Sobradinho is the largest of Brazil's reservoirs in terms of surface area, and it provides hydroelectric power and irrigation to the region.
