Fires in Mexico and Central America

On April 28, 2002, scores of wildfires were still burning in Southern Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula, blanketing the region with smoke. Fire detection and imagery were acquired by the Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASAs Terra satellite. Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of this scene at the sensors fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapidfire site.
