Snow in Northeast United States

Snow blanketsthe northeast United States and southeast Canada in this true-color Terra Moderate ResolutionImaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from February 8, 2003. Thesnow highlights the contours of the land it lies on, making features such as the Appalachian Mountains (lower left) of Pennsylvania, Maryland, WestVirginia, and Virginia much more visible. In the upper left corner, LakeErie is visible, though slightly obscured by clouds, while the northernAtlantic Ocean dominates the lower right portion of the image.
